Founder of a German online electronics store: the role of Big Data is growing
The implementation of information technology is inevitable, regardless of the field the company is operating in, and Big Data is playing an increasingly larger role, stated German entrepreneur Christian Wolf – who in 2008 founded the company asgoodasnew.com in his living-room – at the seminar Innovation Lab 2015, organised by SEB.
According to Wolf, any digital tools that improve productivity need to be put to use in business. The website asgoodasnew.com, which sells used electronics products, analyses hundreds of thousands of purchase transactions based on information retrieved from eBay, in order to set the price for the used goods.
Wolf cited the need to seek help from researchers; for example, when starting up his company he turned to his statistics professor from his days at university, to get the operation up and running.
When speaking about his experience, Wolf noted that the company established six years ago allows for 100 per cent growth per year and to “not go crazy”. “If you offer a new useful solution to clients, you can also sell it,” Wolf said.
Asgoodasnew, which sells used electronics products that are inspected and in excellent condition, is the market leader in the field in Germany and has clients all over Europe. The company also owns the brand wirkaufens.de, which buys up lightly-used electronics.
The Innovation Lab 2015 event, organised by SEB in Tallinn, featured several of Europe’s most sought-after and experienced business leaders, innovators and entrepreneurship consultants. The event was attended by 350 people in Tallinn, and a total of approximately 900 in the three Baltic States.
