SEB working with its clients to map business opportunities for merchants
SEB has developed a mobile app that people can use to map locations where they would like to make card payments for purchases or services, but are unable to at the moment. Collected information will assist businesses in assessing how much they would gain in business opportunities by introducing card payments.
“The development of technology enables card payments to now be accepted across Estonia. We call on people to use the new mobile app to let us know where they get stuck when hoping to make card payments and would like SEB to help find a solution to the problem. With this project, we are also checking the hypothesis that a business not offering card payments is losing out on a significant share of its turnover. By using the app, consumers can let a merchant know that they would use the services of the business more if card payments could be made there. As a result, all parties involved should come out winners: the merchant will be able to increase its turnover by offering card payments, the bank will earn service charges by mediating card payments and the consumers will see their problem solved – they will be able make card payments where they wish to. In recent years, service charges on card payments have fallen dramatically, to the merchant’s advantage. Clients increasingly like to make card payments at the shop,” explained Eerika Vaikmäe-Koit, Head of SEB Retail Banking and Technology Area.
If a user wishes to tag a point of sale without a card terminal, they need to open the address seb.ee/kaart in the browser of their smart phone, find the right location on the map, and tag it. In the first week, clients have tagged 131 businesses where card payments cannot be made currently.
SEB will propose a card payment solution to the most tagged businesses. Information about suggestions is available on an ongoing basis at seb.ee/kaart. The app is intended for use on smart phones only, with the option being added to the existing SEB mobile app at a later date.
