Domestic accidents keep people away from work for nearly a month
The claims handling statistics of SEB Elu- ja Pensionikindlustus show that during the summer period the most frequent causes for accidents were falls, as well as hand and foot injuries. The average duration of treatment was 32 days.
“The possible consequences of domestic accidents are often underestimated. Unfortunately, seemingly minor incidents such as twisting one’s ankle, slipping on the grass, or this summer’s popular pastime of disc-golf, could result in a treatment period of more than a month. Extended periods away from work may result in a significant income deficit, especially for primary breadwinners,” explained Indrek Holst, Chairman of the Management Board, SEB Elu- ja Pensionikindlustus.
According to data from SEB Elu- ja Pensionikindlustus, domestic accident compensation is EUR 354, on average. “Conclusion of life insurance along with extra accident cover provides financial security in case of an accident. The indemnities help to compensate treatment costs and loss of income as a result of being away from work,” added Holst. “It is a very affordable insurance. The average duration of treatment is 32 days, and the average compensation is EUR 354. In this case the client would have to pay EUR 3.30 for extra accident cover every month.”
More than half of the clients who conclude a life insurance contract also take extra cover in the case of temporary incapacity for work as a result of an accident. During the summer period, SEB Elu- ja Pensionikindlustus paid out indemnities for temporary incapacity for work for 76 accidents in the amount of EUR 21,790.
