Indrek Jaal: Technology contributes significantly to raising production efficiency
Increasingly automated production requires enhanced performance of production lines, with the solution being to monitor processes using smart technology, Indrek Jaal, founder of GlobalReader, said at the SEB Innovation Laboratory held on Tuesday, in Tallinn.
The start-up GlobalReader, founded by Mr Jaal, provides businesses with solutions to monitor and analyse production lines. The solution is simple – GlobalReader collects data from the customer’s production lines and transfers it, via cloud, to a browser that the customer can monitor on their smart device.
According to Jaal, the innovativeness of their solution is that something old is done in a novel way. “The necessary technology was available; we simply applied it in tackling a new challenge. As the product functions the same way for all enterprises, irrespective of their size or area of operation, the application is affordable for our customers,” said Jaal.
Jaal stated that the driving force behind the solid growth of GlobalReader has been a few principles they have adhered to since inception: creation of a strong contact base, close communication with the clientele, learning from competition, and high-reaching ambition. “Since almost 90 per cent of start-ups fail, we defined already on day one how we wanted to build our company so that we would be among the remaining ten per cent,” said Jaal.
“The Tehnopol incubator provided us with a contact base, along with mentors, investors and even our initial customers. And the breaking point was when we got our first paying customers. As a B2B company we value close cooperation with customers – our customers are like teachers to us, having tested our solution since the first prototype,” noted Jaal.
According to Jaal, a new idea is never completely unique. “In most cases, someone has already come up with the same idea or is introducing a similar product to market at precisely the same time. However, competition should not be feared; instead, it should be seen as an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of competitors and do better,” added Jaal.
“One thing that Estonians often lack is the courage to present their ideas and have faith in them. This, in turn, is the foundation from which a company can grow and expand to other markets. Having big ambitions is important,” said Jaal.
According to Jaal, they are planning introduce the service on the German market. “Firstly, this is a vast production market with a myriad of companies for whom it would make sense to outsource services that improve production efficiency. Secondly, since our ambitions have been high from the outset, it has allowed us to grow as a company,” reflected Jaal.
