SEB will limit the use of code cards
Starting from 15 February, SEB will limit the use of code cards by its clients with the aim to introduce new means of authentication by 2019. Each client will receive a personal notification regarding the end of validity of their code card; they will have two months to adopt a new means of authentication – ID-card, Smart-ID, mobile ID, or the PIN calculator.
‘The EU Payment Services Directive sets clear requirements regarding limitations on the use of code cards for European banking. This is an inevitable and necessary transition, which the development of technology and banking services calls for. Fortunately, our clients also understand this – they began using other methods instead of code cards last year. Currently, about one third of our clients still use code cards and their numbers are decreasing quickly. I believe that we can streamline the transition from code cards to more secure means of authentication,’ said Ainar Leppänen, Head of Retail Banking and Technology, about the situation.
SEB will begin limiting the cards used by clients from February 2018, doing so gradually by different client groups. SEB plans to stop the use of code cards among its clients by the beginning of 2019 and offers four convenient alternatives to replace them. Help regarding the use of new means of authentication is available in the branches of SEB as well as on the customer support line at 66 55 100.
