Strong authentication of online transactions has been used in Estonia for a long time. On 15 January, SEB Pank will upgrade its current 3DS solution to a more secure new standard. The new and improved 3DS 2 authentication protocol offers many benefits to merchants and consumers, including better user experience and greater security when making online purchases. The whole authentication process will be faster and more accurate.
Unfortunately, ID support for the new standard will take a little longer than expected. Due to the above, from 15 January, there may be interruptions in online card payments that require strong authentication with an ID-card. To avoid problems, we recommend using other strong authentication options – Mobile ID, Smart-ID, or a pin calculator – in parallel. The new authentication standard will support ID-cards by the end of February at the latest.
