The number of Smart-ID users in Estonia and the other Baltic states is growing
More than 15,000 clients of SEB are using the new authentication tool Smart-ID to log in to the Internet bank. In total, there are almost 45,000 Smart-ID users in Estonia.
“The new authentication method has experienced rapid growth since Smart-ID was introduced to our customers, amounting to a few hundred people per day. While growth has been solid in Estonia and Latvia, we are encouraging our clients in all three Baltic countries to be more active when it comes adopting the new authentication method and replacing their code card with its dated security features,” said Ainar Leppänen, Head of SEB Retail Banking and Technology Area.
The rapid spreading of Smart-ID across the Baltic countries is also confirmed by SK ID Solutions, the developer of the new authentication method. “The growing number of Smart-ID users in Estonia shows that the new solution has gained the trust of Estonians. We have received positive feedback from across the Baltic countries, where Smart-ID already has more than 160,000 users. We will continue to develop the Smart-ID and, as a new feature, it will soon be available for use by young people under the age of 18. We are also making preparations to issue Smart-IDs at customer service points, making the solution even more accessible for users,” said Liisa Lukin, Business Development Manager (additional services) at SK ID Solutions.
Smart-ID is a personal identification tool that can be used by any smartphone user who is over 18 years of age. It is a convenient, simple and secure way to log in to e-services and provide digital signatures. In addition to SEB Pank, also Swedbank, the school management system eKool, Tallinna Kaubamaja Grupp, E-Krediidiinfo and DigiDoc now support Smart-ID, as well as the television and Internet service provider Starman.
